THE GUARANI PEOPLE
The Guarani people were the original inhabitants of much of modern South America. Before European interaction, there was no written language so all historical accounts were passed down verbally. Their early villages consisted of houses that ten to 15 families would live in at one time. The native Guarani language is still spoken by over 4 million people in Paraguay (Farlex). The Guarani people relied heavily on agriculture including fishing hunting and growing crops. The majority of what was crown was corn (Farlex).
The Religion of these people consisted of complex mythical beliefs. A mythical being called the Shaman was believed to have the ability to cure sickness and keep evil at a distance (Farlex). Part of their religion tells them of a land that has no pain, and no suffering, they call this place “The Land Without Evil” (Survival) Paraguay was isolated from many large Spanish trade routes, therefore they existed for longer before being taken over by Spanish conquistadors. Still after they were conquered by Spain, the Guarani people take up the vast majority of the population, and have a large influence on the culture of Paraguay today.
